Volumetric Weight Calculator
Couriers bill you for the greater of a package's actual weight and its volumetric (dimensional) weight. Enter your box size to see the chargeable weight you'll actually pay for — and avoid nasty shipping surprises. Runs in your browser.
Carriers divide volume by this number. Lower divisor = higher volumetric weight. Confirm yours on the rate card.
Enter your per-kg rate to estimate the shipping cost.
ℹ️ Estimates only. Divisors, rounding rules (many carriers round up to the next 0.5 kg) and fuel/remote surcharges vary by carrier and lane — always confirm with your courier's current rate card.
Why volumetric weight matters
A big, light box (think pillows or lampshades) costs far more to ship than its weight on a scale suggests — because it hogs space on the plane or truck. Carriers handle this by charging the greater of actual and volumetric weight.
- Volumetric weight = (length × width × height in cm) ÷ divisor. Express carriers usually use 5000; air freight often 6000.
- Chargeable weight = whichever is bigger, actual or volumetric. That's what you pay for.
- Shrink the box, not just the product — tighter packaging can drop you into a lower chargeable weight and cut cost per unit.
