A UTM link is a normal URL with extra tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, etc.) added to the end. Analytics tools like Google Analytics read these tags so you can see exactly which ad, post or email a visitor came from.

Which UTM parameters should I use?

Source (where the traffic comes from, e.g. facebook), medium (the type, e.g. cpc or email) and campaign (the promotion name) are the core three. Term and content are optional, used mainly for paid keywords and A/B testing different links.

Is it free and private?

How UTM tracking works

utm_source — where the click comes from (facebook, google, email).
utm_medium — the channel type (cpc, social, email).
utm_campaign — the specific promotion (summer_sale).
utm_term / utm_content — optional: paid keyword, and which ad/link variant (great for A/B tests).

Use lowercase and underscores, and keep names consistent — analytics treats Facebook and facebook as two different sources. Then check Acquisition → Campaigns in Google Analytics to see what's working.
